Your writing is exceptional, loved your prose, it’s very emotive. I didn’t want this to end and it made me recall ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’

It has all the hallmarks of a good telling of a ‘legend’ and you have a beautiful way with language. I particularly loved the opening line (very atmospheric) and some of your turns of phrase like ‘like grease on water’.
