Babs Rudlin - Fantasy Author

Weaving New Worlds

Babs Rudlin is an award-winning fantasy author (small awards, but awards nonetheless).writes emotionally layered, deeply immersive fantasy designed to stay with readers long after the final page. Her work spans a diverse mix of genres—from mystery and romance to techno-horror and epic fantasy—all bound together by intricate world-building, morally complex characters, and zero to low spice.

She is the author of the YA fantasy novel Finding Wildfire—an Amazon top-ten bestseller in YA Sword & Sorcery. Reaching number 8 in the first week of release.

Babs’s short fiction has achieved critical acclaim, earning third place in the Station Books Writing Contest and first place in the PING Anthology, where she was incredibly proud to win ARC reader accolades for ‘Creepiest Story’ and ‘Personal Favourite’ for Early Access. Her work is also featured in the upcoming autumn 2026 anthology, The Queen Arrayed in Gold and Other Myths and Legends.

Babs lives in Essex with her husband, Rob, and their two Miniature Schnauzers, who serve as excellent (if occasionally distracting) writing assistants. When she isn’t weaving intricate plots or building fantastical worlds, she can usually be found working her allotment, pursuing fibre crafts, or enjoying a, cup of tea and a bickie.

The Ascendia Chronicles

My current work, the Ascendia Chronicles, explores some deep themes, enforced childlessness, and abusive power dynamics through a lens that is both gripping and grounded. I believe fantasy is at its best when it reflects our own world back at us—flaws, shadows, and all. You won’t find over-explained histories here; instead, you’ll find yourself sitting within the character’s own confusion as they navigate powers they don’t yet understand and a world that rarely offers easy answers.

Beyond the Page

When I’m not at my desk (usually accompanied by my faithful dogs, Sophie and Holly), I’m often found re-entering the world of fantasy as an escape from our sometimes harsh reality. Writing has been my bridge back to connection. I have a deep appreciation for a well-made brew and a story that leaves you thinking long after the final page is turned.
I am delighted to have you here in my digital “study.” Whether you’ve followed my crafting journey for years or you’re here for the monsters and the mysteries, I hope you find a story that resonates.
