Dreamy blue and gold flames against a light background, golden orbs float around the text, The Threads That Bind: Finding the Voice

As we wrap up this first week of diving into the world of Ascendia, I’ve been reflecting on what truly makes a story linger in the mind long after the final page is turned. It isn’t just the magic system or the sprawling landscapes; it is the voice of the characters.

When I first began drafting The Weaver’s Gambit, I spent hours at my own “loom,” trying to hear Yolena’s specific rhythm. I needed to understand not just what she did, but how she felt the “current” of the world, the physical ache of her magic, and the quiet defiance in her heart.

The Power of Perspective

A character’s voice is more than just how they speak; it is how they filter their entire reality. It’s the difference between seeing a simple wooden loom and seeing a tool for revolution. It’s the reason Lord Valerius sees power where others see decay.

Finding that voice is a journey. It requires asking the difficult questions:

  • What keeps them awake when the village is silent?
  • What is the one thing they would never say out loud?
  • How do they react when their world begins to change?

Helping You Find Your Voice

One of the most rewarding parts of this journey has been creating tools to help other writers and readers explore these same depths. I created The Character’s Mirror because I know how daunting a blank page can be. I wanted to provide a guide—a bit like a golden orb—to lead you through the process of building a lead with a “stout heart and a cunning brain.”

Whether you are writing your first chapter or simply love deconstructing the heroes of your favourite books, this workbook is for you.

Looking Ahead

Next week, the focus shifts. We are moving from the “how” of character creation to the “who” of The Weaver’s Gambit. We’ll be meeting the specific figures who inhabit Oakhaven and preparing for the next big step toward our April 2nd launch.

Thank you for being part of this first week. I poured a great deal of heart into weaving this world together, and I am so pleased to have you alongside me for the reveal.
